This training will provide resources on how to prepare federal sites for transition to zero-emission vehicles (ZEV). The training will describe the resources included in the ZEV Ready Center and interactively show how the ZEV Ready Tracker can better prepare federal sites for fleet electrification. It will also review how to become a "ZEV Ready" designated site by successfully completing the fleet electrification steps, filling out the tracker, and submitting it to the Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) to obtain a certificate.

Cabell leads the National Renewable Energy Laboratory's support for Federal fleet electrification in addition to several other national and international efforts. He conducts research, develops analysis, and has authored several publications on topics including fleet electrification, electric vehicle supply equipment installation, charging management, vehicle grid integration, battery electric buses, telematics, and vehicle cybersecurity. Before joining NREL, Cabell was a Policy Advisor at the Colorado Energy Office, where he developed programs and policies to deploy alternative fuel vehicles and infrastructure.
Julian Bentley, Managing Director, Bentley Energy Consulting Read Bio
Julian Bentley is the managing director and founder of Bentley Energy Consulting. He has more than 25 years of experience providing energy and environmental management consulting services, focusing on helping private- and public-sector clients improve energy management. Since 2007, Julian has supported the Federal Fleet Program, assisting federal agencies with developing and implementing comprehensive strategies to improve fleet efficiency, maximize alternative fuel use, improve fleet fuel management, reduce petroleum consumption, and meet regulatory requirements. He is a leading authority on electric vehicles, including their deployment and related charging infrastructure for fleets, and teaches courses on electric vehicles for George Washington University's Environmental and Energy Management Institute and the European Energy Centre. Julian received his M.B.A. from the Kenan-Flagler Business School, the University of North Carolina, and his B.S. in chemical engineering and economics from Carnegie Mellon University.
Sonya Smith-Pickel, Federal Fleet Program Manager, Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP) Read Bio
Sonya Smith-Pickel is the federal fleet program manager at the Department of Energy (DOE), Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP). She leads the tools, training, technical assistance, planning, and regulatory requirements for federal fleet electrification and sustainable fleet management. Sonya has 20 years of experience working in transportation, economics, regional planning, and environmental science at the federal, state, and local level and has led over 30 projects in planning and transportation analysis to success.
Sonya has a master's degree in Regional Planning from UMass Amherst and bachelor's degrees in Economics and Environmental Science from Hobart and William Smith Colleges. Sonya is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP), a certified Federal Fleet Manager (CFFM), and a member of the Transportation Research Board Alternative Transportation Fuels and Technology Committee (TRB AMS40). In her spare time, Sonya enjoys boating, cooking, and exploring with her family.
